THE UNDERGRADUATE ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT PLANNERS (uASP)

Co-Founder & President

Founded: Spring 2016

President: Spring 2016 & Spring 2017

As the Co-Founder & Predestine of The Undergraduate Association of Student Planners (uASP), I noticed that the Undergraduate Students in Urban Planning no longer had an organization they could be led under. There exists an Association of Student Planners (ASP) which serves the Graduate Students of The College & Department; Therefore, I noticed a need and thus created the solution. Together, with my Co-Founder, Justin Patton, uASP was created and led in Spring of 2016.

The Undergraduate Association of Student Planners is an organization for those with an Urban Planning minor, major, or those interested in Urban Planning. The organization is located within the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University and it provides: resources, materials, and networking opportunities for success within the Design, Urban Planning, and Architecture realm for those within our organization. uASP loves to see its fellow Aggies accomplish their goals within their majors, as well as their future endeavors, thus the organization strives to promote success within its membership & serve the Brazos County community in various ways. To learn more about how uASP served the Brazos Valley click on my ACADEMIC VOLUNTEERISM page.

Through this organization I planned various events and activities to engage those interested in Urban Planning. Students benefited from uASP by: attending BCS City Council & Planning Meetings, listening to guest speakers, engaging in Career Fair & Resume Prep, having professional LinkedIn Photos taken, exchanging text books for future classes, receiving career and class advice, and much more.

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION (REDA)

Member: Fall 2017—Present & Social Chair: Fall 2018 (Present)

REDA provides extracurricular learning opportunities for Texas A&M students that are interested in real estate development. In addition, this group organizes field trips, guest lectures, and other student activities for its members.

As a member of REDA I was able to network and engage with business professionals in the construction, development, and real estate realms. I attended site visits and guest speakers to learn more about various real world experiences which could help me in the future. As the Social Chair of REDA, I am tasked with planning, budgeting & executing tailgates for each TAMU home game, planning profit shares, as well as monthly social events for our members. Below you can view a few of my experiences as both a Member and a Social Chair of The Real Estate Development Association.

STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD

Member: Spring 2016 —Spring 2017

The Student Advisory Board is made up of of current students which hold leadership positions within the organizations of the LAUP department. As the President of uASP, I was able to support the board & the LAUP programs by assisting in planning, coordinating, and executing workshops for The College of Architecture. In addition, we provided support for the Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning career fair which assists students in finding intern positions during school and professional employment upon graduation. As a board member, I was also part of critical decision-making for the department and even made recommendations to previous the Urban Planning program. My input resulted in a positive change for the future Urban Planning curriculum.

CHRISTIAN ARCHITECTURE LEADERS [CAL]

Member: October 2014— May 2016

In-Reach Leader: Spring 2015

The purpose of Christian Architecture Leaders is to glorify the Lord and grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. As a leadership organization, our goal is to foster the DEVELOPMENT of servant leaders, build COMMUNITY within the body of Christ, and seek God's will for our lives in order to SERVE and share the love of Christ with the students and faculty of The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University.

Our desire is to direct design minded students into leadership roles, by providing real life experience and advice via visiting Christian professionals in our fields of study, as well as providing opportunities for hands on experience via service projects, meetings, hangouts, organizational responsibilities, and monetary fundraisers.

During my time as a leader for CAL I had the opportunity to present the gospel to our members through monthly presentations, and plan our annual weekend retreat off-campus. Before and during our retreat, I was in charge of locating a space to accommodate our team, organizing meetings, managing logistics, budgeting for supplies & food, planning meals & events/games, and creating an itinerary. Below are a few photos from our retreat and other fun activities!

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES COMMITTEE [EIC]

Programming Member: Fall 2015—Spring 2017

As a representative of Texas A&M, we actively strive to provide and support: programs which enhance environmental education and awareness, programs which reduce the community's impact on the environment, and sound environmental legislation on and off campus, in order to improve quality of life.

In EIC I was part of the programming committee. My job, as a Programming member, was to educate ourselves, the public, and Texas A&M University students how to live a more sustainable lifestyle through “programmed” events. Each month we had a different topic in which we created various posters, flyers, and hosted activities to help those understand more about various sustainability practices they too could implement every day.

Each spring EIC hosts TAMU Earth Day on campus. Earth Day is a week long program consisting of various days of educating students on campus about a certain topic. One year in particular, our theme was waste and trash. Each event throughout the week dealt with education, games, prizes, and activities relating to reducing waste, recycling, reusing and sustaining the earth. We also participated in a recycled clothing drive. We set out a clothes rack on campus in which Faculty, Staff & Students of Texas A&M University could take a piece of clothing in exchange for a donation of another gently used clothing item. Below you can see a photos from the few, of many activities, I was able to participate in with EIC.

DEPARTMENT OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE & URBAN PLANNING

DEPARTMENT-HEAD, SEARCH COMMITTEE

Member: Fall 2017—Spring 2018

I was hand-selected by my professor and final defense Co-Chair, Kent Anderson, to be part of the department-head search committee. As part of the LAUP Department-Head Search Committee, it was my job to evaluate all of the applicants utilizing a specific matrix. Through this matrix I was required to evaluate each of the 22 applicants separately and determine if they met or did not meet the specified requirements which the department and the job description outlined. After this matrix was then complete, we were then asked to rate the applicants based on the desired requirements. From these 22 candidates, the committee then decided on the top 6 candidates whom we wished to contact their references and gain a better understanding of who they were are as leaders, professors, and colleagues. After contacting each reference, the top 6 were then narrowed down to the top 3, those whom we wished to bring to Texas A&M for a campus tour and additional interviews. In the end, we were able to rate and vote on our best candidate, provide our information to the Dean of The College of Architecture who then had the final say.
