COLLABORATION
“No matter how brilliant your mind or strategy, if you’re playing a solo game, you’ll always lose out to a team. ”
As part of the development process you must know how to collaborate with others. The saying goes, “two heads are better than one” and I couldn’t agree more. As a developers and entrepreneurs, we quickly learn how to cohesively work together and get one job done. Moreover, there are many players involved in the development process such as:
Appraiser(s)
Architect(s)
Attorney(s)
Broker/leasing agent(s)
Citizens/groups
Contractor(s)
Engineer(s)
Planner(s)
Environmental consultant(s)
Geo-technical engineer(s)
Investor(s)
Landscape Architect(s)
Lender(s)
Market Analyst(s)
Public official(s)
Traffic engineer(s), just to name a few.
In each of my leadership positions, and group projects, I was required to work alongside a team of very diverse people. The difficult part of working in a team environment is that each teammate will have their own schedule(s), idea(s), vision(s), goal(s) and end result(s). During my LDEV 671 class, my team was tasked with combining each of our findings into one presentation which flowed effortlessly and seamlessly into each other. Our team collaborated to expand upon the definition(s) of Sustainable Innovation & Design, the Evolution of Design for Sustainability Framework, Environmental, Social/Cultural, & Economic/Business innovations which affect how our every-day lives are shaped. Therefore, working together while ensuring each teammate’s voice and ideas are heard is a very important skill I have been able to sharpen. Throughout my time in college and through the MLPD program, I have had a great amount of opportunities to collaborate with others with is clear through my multiple team projects.
